Matt Lawrence and Martin McKinney first crossed paths back in the early 90’s at university, while studying for a BA degree in Product Design.
What both didn’t realise at the time, was that aside from a shared interest in design, they also had an interest in an “alien” art form that was all the rage in the UK at the time… crop circles!
Over the following years, Matt & Martin teamed up and spent many nights stomping around in corn fields, creating land art that many thought, and still to this day think, was beyond the capabilities of mischievous creative humans.
Matt went on to forge a career in VFX over the last 20 years working at several of London’s top VFX houses, including Rushes and Envy. His work encompasses Film, TV Longform, Advertising, Music Video and Corporate clients, having recently completed main on end titles for Alex Garland’s “Annihilation" and graphic sequences for the Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
Both he and Martin now work as freelance artists, and apart from Matt's core VFX work, they are also specialists in creating impactful land art on commission.
They’ve created land art for major clients in everything from crops, to sand, and even painting on the landscape… and their early experimentation with aerial photography and video using nascent drone technology gave new impetus to their creations.
“This is the first time we’ve chosen to make our work available in print form, so we were delighted when Mr-Benn.com approached us to make this possible…. especially as our sand art on the beaches of Dorset, Wales and other places on the UK coastline, ties in with the worthwhile campaign to reduce plastic pollution.
We hope you enjoy our work!"
